Today, our school received a bomb threat, which triggered an immediate evacuation. The San Diego Police Department and the Fire Department Bomb Squad were dispatched immediately to our school. McGill students quickly and safely evacuated the premises.
We spent the day at the park playing and enjoying the weather while authorities secured the campus. Our school was deemed safe for return by 1:00 p.m.
Tomorrow, I am holding an assembly to explain to the students the reason for the evacuation. I would also like to let you know that McGill will have a trusted volunteer on-site. This volunteer, who currently works with students daily in the areas of social/emotional health, will be on-site for extended hours tomorrow to talk to any students, staff, or parents about the evacuation.
Additionally, our partners in education, Head Start, will also have counselors on-site to assist students, staff, and families.
Please rest assured that we are doing our best to ensure the safety of students and staff.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the McGill Office at 619-690-0770.
Sincerely,
Delia Terry
Interim CEO/Principal
