Dear Families, Staff, and Community Members,
I am writing to you today with a heavy heart, but also with a fierce commitment to the safety, well-being, and dignity of every single student who walks through our doors.
Like many of you, I am deeply shaken and heartbroken by the recent, horrific attack on members of our Muslim community at a San Diego mosque. That this act of violence targeted individuals—including children and families—in a sacred place of peace and worship is utterly deplorable.
On behalf of the entire school administration and staff, I want to say unequivocally to our Muslim students and families: We see you, we love you, and we stand with you. You are an invaluable, cherished part of our school fabric. The fear, pain, and anxiety you may be feeling right now are heavy burdens, and you do not have to carry them alone.
Our school must always be a sanctuary—a place where diversity is celebrated, and where every child feels safe, respected, and protected. We have zero tolerance for hate, Islamophobia, bigotry, or discrimination of any kind.
In the wake of this tragedy, we are taking the following immediate steps to support our community:
Counseling and Mental Health Support: Our school counselors and crisis support teams are on high alert. Safe spaces have been set up on campus for any students who need a place to process their emotions, talk, or simply find comfort.
Increased Campus Security: We are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure an increased, visible presence around our campus out of an abundance of caution, ensuring our students feel secure arriving at and leaving school.
Open Channels for Families: If your child is struggling or dreading coming to school, please reach out directly to their teacher or my office. We want to work with you individually to support them.
Times like these test the character of a community. I ask that we all wrap our arms around our Muslim neighbors right now. Let us check in on one another, lead with kindness, and reject the hatred that seeks to divide us.
We are stronger together, and we will move forward together.
With deep respect and solidarity,
Delia Terry
Interim Principal
McGill School of Success
