Updated: Oct 30
Every month, we give out awards to some of our students who excel. This month, not only were there awards, but there were shenanigans! Keep scrolling...
These were the student awardees:
Every month we give out two very special Reverend George Walker Smith Character Counts awards. For September these awards went to Johnny V and Victoria G.
![]() Johnny never forgets the 6 pillars. At such a young age. Amazing how Johnny can be so calm but at the same time carries the willingness to thrive and the sense of determination. He can be learning a new song or a new dance. He does not only try. He goes above and beyond to become the best. He also shows how much he cares for his peers. Let me tell you about this time where he was about to win this game we were playing and once he saw one of his classmates out of the game, he stopped me and said “ mr rios i want to give up my spot and give it to her”. Amazed on how at a young age he cares for others. He cares for his classmates but also demonstrates respect towards his teachers. Often comes to class ready and excited. Always attentive and listening to instruction. He uses his Please, and Thank you’s . He is to cheer for others and scream “ come on you can do it”. | ![]() | ![]() Victoria demonstrates the 6 pillars with such ease. No day that she does not put them to practice. She arrives at school driven and ready for the day. She has the ease to adapt and lead others with such serenity and patience. Always. I mean always a yes when it comes to helping others or helping her teacher with creative suggestions. Brings a warm, kindhearted spirit that fosters a welcoming environment. Victoria is not afraid to make mistakes and try new challenges. She is persistent and works hard to accomplish the given task. Actively participates in everything and gives it her best. Always treats classmates, staff with genuine courtesy and care. |
Here are the traits these outstanding students show to earn these awards:
Of course, we have many more excellent students than get awards each month. We did a little raffle this month, and gave away some small (and one not-so-small) prizes to kids who either showed perfect attendance or were caught exhibiting special kindness or other good behavior.
You know it wouldn't be McGill without a performance. Here are the Summer Boys, performing something they're working on the the Hispanic Heritage Celebration:
Now, one thing NOBODY was expecting was for Dads to dance! These guys were such good sports!
And a big thanks to everyone who was on hand to cheer our students (and their Dads) on!
